Adios Gov. Scuzz

Adios, Governor Scuzz

The death penalty moratorium and subsequent mass pardons by Governor Scuzz (George Ryan) was only one indication of this man's arrogance and corruption. As many will recall, immediately after winning his election to the Governorship (by only two points), Governor Scuzz stated that anyone believing anything he said during his campaign had to have a hole in their head. And from that point forward he proved it by the systematic destruction of those promises as his administration headed on a glide path towards destruction.

But Governor Scuzz is not just an aberration in Illinois politics: he typified much of what is wrong with the Illinois Republican Party of today: it has become ethically, morally, politically, and quite often, criminally corrupt. Yes, Governor Scuzz and his inner circle have been making headlines with a never ending stream of indictments, but closer to home the electorate has seen similar disgusting behavior from many of our local Republican officials. Some of their “challenged” behavior includes a committeeman changing election rules in order to prevent “outsiders” from challenging positions held by his spouse and friends; a State Rep candidate publishing outrageous lies about her primary competitor; an incumbent State Senator refusing to rebuke the lying Rep candidate even though she was running in her State Senate district; the same State Senator’s husband quietly landing a tollroad contract for surveillance cameras; at least one former Township Supervisor found guilty of wrongfully using public funds for his own benefit; another Township Supervisor requesting additional space to accommodate a food pantry which she started under the pretext it would never require public funds, and on and on and on.

It will take a lot more for Republicans to regain credibility than waving farewell to Governor Scuzz. It will take a complete revamp of the Party infrastructure and the removal of a large part of their hierarchy. Perhaps then they can begin mounting an effective challenge to the Democrat juggernaut sweeping the State.
