Years ago, public service meant just that... public service. Individuals came to the aid of their local, state, and federal governmental bodies by providing their expertise in any number of areas. But over the years, that has changed.
Nowadays, it seems individuals vie for elected positions in order to line their own pockets first, followed by their definition of public service second... if at all. And never is that more evident than in Illinois, especially at the State level.
Citizen watchdog and political activist Val Zimnicki has been investigating the salaries and other perks Illinois State Senators and State Representatives receive for their so-called public service. In viewing the following table, remember, these are PART TIME jobs!
